[blockquote source=”James 1:5-8 (NV)“]If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.[/blockquote]

As Creative Individuals
As creative individuals who use our brains to make a living, we rely on our ability to not only apply what we’ve learned to our work, but also our abilities to synthesize information. Amongst us, those who are able to create unique value for our clients are truly the ones who will have a comparative advantage over our competition.

Application of the knowledge acquired is essentially based on the availability of information and our understanding of the subject matter. Often times, if you have been working on the subject for sometime, you’d be able to apply the learnings acquired.

Being able to synthesize is quite a different matter. You would need to be able to look for connections and patterns between two seemingly unrelated subject matters. Making the association at this level requires you to be able to take a step back and look at it from an ecological stand point. At that level, you will be able to see the connections at a higher level compared to when you were looking at them separately. It’s like mixing oil and water. If you’d just mix the two, oil will float on top of water. However, if you add an emulsifier, then oil and water stay mixed.

Critical Success Factors in Creation
Creating calls for a higher level of thinking. Research has shown that there are four critical factors that will increase the likelihood of creation of new ideas. These are:

  • Internal motivation
  • Knowledge of subject matter
  • Process of creation
  • External environment

Out of these four factors, environment is the only one that is outside the circle of our influence. The remaining three all lies within our circle of influence and we can do something about it.

That said, sometimes we placed too much on the external environment that we somehow miss the point that the other three factors are as critical, if not more. Perhaps it is this external factor that better facilitate the creation process. But let it be known that this factor alone is perhaps too over-rated.

Creative Process
In fact, the factor that makes the most contribution to the desired outcome is the creative process. It is this process that some would argue is more nature than nurture. Interestingly, some even see it as a random process that appears to be a spark of inspiration. And still some attribute it to some mythical process that lies somewhere between being superstitious and magical.

The truth is, we all have this creative process within us. It is like, we all have biceps. Now, just because one cannot manage a number of chin-ups doesn’t mean that the muscles are non-existent for them. It is just that those muscles are not put into use and without usage and practice it becomes weak. Now that we have established that everyone of us have the creative ability, we can then sharpen our creative ability through practice. With the right tools in place, we will be better to create. But of course, as with anything to do with practice means you have to do it consistently. It cannot be a “I’ll do when I get to it” attitude. It becomes a matter of doing it on a consistent basis for a fixed amount of time. Just like exercise, you need to commit to at least 20 minutes of workout on a regular basis to experience any form of benefits.

Mythical Element in Creation
Lastly, the mythical element. It’s been said that opportunities prefer the prepared mind; henceforth it is not about wearing the same under garment to achieve a result of chance or even worshipping some idols to strike it right. This last element is about faith. Essentially it is about how we pray. Many of us pray but we sometimes have doubts or seriously are two-minded about whether our prayers can be answered. When we pray we must have an attitude of expectancy. We must expect it to happen. We cannot pray and still have our doubts about whether it is going to happen.

Now, of course it depends on what you ask for. God is your helper but He is not your slave. Do ask for things that are meant to do His will and it will be answered.

LORD, I pray that with my daily messages, it will help others see that it is not about finding their purpose and then working on it, but it is about doing Your will and then our purpose would be found. It is not us, it is You LORD. LORD, I pray that many will be attracted to this site because of the truth and how the truth can and will set them free. LORD, I pray that through this site people will deepen their relationship with You. In Christ name we pray, Amen.
